Six rounds of city addresses: still CMRAs, still not a lease
A Columbus or Pittsburgh PMB is a staffed mail center on a map, not a tax election and not a bank-approval charm. Networks list locations in all five of these cities. Inventory turns over. Open the provider’s finder and read that row’s monthly price, scan fees, and whether pickup is allowed before you print letterhead.
Earlier city lists: NYC, Austin, Miami, Chicago, Seattle · Los Angeles, Houston, Denver, Phoenix, Atlanta · Dallas, San Francisco, Boston, Portland, Tampa · Charlotte, Nashville, Philadelphia, Minneapolis, Orlando · San Diego, Las Vegas, Detroit, Salt Lake City, Washington DC. This page is the same job for a sixth five.

Use the iPostal1 locator rather than inventing streets from a broken city page. Do not treat a Kansas-side Overland Park row as a Missouri Kansas City street address. | VPM: no Missouri or Kansas hub. PostScan: confirm the locator. Traveling Mailbox: not a Kansas City hub. Kansas City, KS and Kansas City, MO are different cities across a state line — read the state abbreviation on the card. |

Anytime Mailbox: no dedicated city slug today for these five; use the Ohio listing, Indiana listing, Missouri listing, Pennsylvania listing, and Maryland listing. US map: lp.anytimemailbox.com/locations/map. iPostal1 still says 4,250+ locations worldwide; that count is theirs, not a street-by-street audit. Kansas City iPostal city pages were broken when checked — open their locator instead of trusting a dead city URL.
iPostal1 also publishes a registered-agent add-on in listed states. A Columbus, Indianapolis, Kansas City, Pittsburgh, or Baltimore mailbox is still not automatically an RA appointment. Confirm the shop is actually registered as an agent and keep the two products on separate fields. See registered agent plus mailbox.
Nearby hubs that are not the city
Company-run scanning hubs get used as if they were downtown. They are not.
- VirtualPostMail hubs overall — Covina CA, Claymont DE, Brandon FL, Henderson NV, Keller TX. No Columbus, Indianapolis, Kansas City, Pittsburgh, or Baltimore hub on that page. Source: VPM addresses.
- Kansas City metro suburbs — Lee's Summit, Raytown, Platte City, and Kansas-side Overland Park rows may appear in a “Kansas City” search. They are not a downtown Pershing Rd / Pennsylvania Ave Missouri storefront unless the street and state say so.
- Baltimore County vs Baltimore City — Towson, Timonium, and Owings Mills are not a Guilford Ave / Lombard Street city address.
- Traveling Mailbox / Sanford, NC — useful if you want one operator and do not care about a local pickup door. Not a substitute for a Columbus, Indianapolis, Kansas City, Pittsburgh, or Baltimore storefront. See provider comparison.
VPM still warns that its mailbox SKU is not for banking. We do not claim otherwise. See banks, Stripe, Mercury.
What “downtown” still is
iPostal1 FAQ on the first city list: about 90% of locations are Standard at the published $9.99 / $14.99 base; Select +$10, Premium +$20, Prestige +$30 per month. Check current pricing. Downtown Columbus (W Broad St, S 3rd St), Pittsburgh (Liberty Ave), and Baltimore (Guilford Ave) shops land in the expensive buckets when they are available. Anytime Mailbox location cards set their own rent. Their Ohio, Indiana, Missouri, Pennsylvania, and Maryland state listings listed monthly figures that varied by street when reviewed. Believe the live card, not the homepage average. Check current pricing before you subscribe.
You still complete Form 1583. You still use PMB or #. Banks still can flag the building as a CMRA. A Liberty Avenue mail center does not convert a CMRA into a lease. A Lee's Summit suburb does not make you a downtown Kansas City resident. A Columbus prestige location is still a CMRA.
Pickup vs scan-only
The reason to pay city rent is often same-day pickup, a local UPS/FedEx stop, or a return drop. Confirm hours and ID required to pick up, whether the virtual-mailbox plan includes pickup or the store charges extra, and whether registered mail still requires a trip to the Post Office (USPS says you must collect Registered Mail at the Post Office, not the CMRA).
If you will never set foot in Columbus or Baltimore, a city PMB is a vanity line plus whatever scan SLA that franchisee meets. A company hub in another state may scan faster because that is their whole business. Pay city rent when you will use the door.
Local business licensing
Using a city PMB on a website does not register you with that city. A mailbox provider’s checkout is not a municipal license.
- Columbus — Operating / earning in the city generally means registering and filing with the City Income Tax Division (CRISP portal). A Broad St PMB is not that registration. Source: columbus.gov income tax filing · crisp.columbus.gov.
- Indianapolis — There is no single blanket city business license for every activity; many businesses need activity-specific licenses or permits through Business and Neighborhood Services / Accela, plus state filings on INBiz. An E 71st St PMB is not that license. Source: Indy Accela Citizen Access · INBiz start a business.
- Kansas City, MO — Businesses operating in the city generally need a KCMO business license (QuickTax / Revenue Division). A Pershing Rd PMB is not that license. Source: bizcare.kcmo.gov business license · kcmo.gov Business License Office.
- Pittsburgh — New businesses generally register with the Department of Finance; many licenses and permits run through OneStopPGH / PLI. A Liberty Ave PMB is not that registration. Source: pittsburghpa.gov new business registration · OneStopPGH.
- Baltimore — Many commercial activities need a city business license through the Department of Consumer Protection and Business Licensing (plus Maryland SDAT registration). A Guilford Ave PMB is not that license. Source: baltimorecity.gov apply for a license · DCPBL.
