NYC, Austin, Miami, Chicago, Seattle: same buildings, different prices

A Manhattan or Brickell PMB is a staffed mail center on a map, not a tax election and not a bank-approval charm. Both big networks list a lot of real rows in these five cities, and some of them are the same building sold by two networks at different starting prices. Open the provider’s finder and read that row’s monthly price, scan fees, and pickup rules before you print letterhead.

How many city rows each network showed

Anytime Mailbox’s /l/usa/state/city paths load the whole state, not just the city. Read the city and ZIP on each card. US map: lp.anytimemailbox.com/locations/map. iPostal1 says it has 4,250+ locations worldwide; that count is theirs.

Same building, two networks, two prices

Many addresses in these cities are listed by both Anytime Mailbox and iPostal1, because the same store or business center sells through both. The building is identical. The starting price is not. Examples from 07 Oct 2026:

Neither side is always cheaper. A “starting from” number is each network’s lowest plan for that row, and the plans include different mail-item counts, scan allowances, and add-ons, so this is not an apples-to-apples price. Check the ZIP, too. On the review date, 152 E 118th St in East Harlem showed ZIP 10001 on the Anytime Mailbox card and 10035 on the iPostal1 card. Run any address through the USPS ZIP lookup before you put it on a bank form or a state filing. A wrong ZIP is a cheap way to get a mismatch flag.

Some buildings also carry two cards on one network. Anytime Mailbox listed 211 W Wacker Dr in Chicago twice and 600 1st Ave in Seattle twice, with different suites and prices. The suite number decides which operator handles your mail.

Rows that look local but are not the city

• Miami — Miami Beach (Lincoln Rd, Michigan Ave), Miami Lakes, Miami Shores, North Miami, North Miami Beach, Hialeah, Doral, Key Biscayne, Pinecrest, and Palmetto Bay are their own cities on the cards. Fine if that is what you want on the line; just don’t call it a Miami address.
• Austin — Cedar Park, Round Rock, Leander, Bee Cave, Lakeway, Manchaca, and Driftwood cards sit around Austin on the Texas listing. They are not Austin.
• Chicago — Oak Park, Forest Park, River Forest, Skokie, Blue Island, and Lyons are separate suburbs, not Chicago street addresses.
• Seattle — Bellevue, Lynnwood, Issaquah, Sammamish, Kent, Tacoma, and Woodinville are separate cities. Bellevue Way was listed at US$ 41.99 / month, above any Seattle-named card that day.
• NYC — Brooklyn, Bronx, and Queens neighborhood names are still New York City. Westchester and Long Island cards (Larchmont, New Rochelle, Great Neck, Melville, Uniondale) are not.
• Company hubs — Traveling Mailbox (Sanford, NC) and VirtualPostMail hubs are useful if you never need a local door. They are not a substitute for a storefront in any of these cities.

What “prestige” costs

iPostal1’s city pages say plan pricing varies by Standard, Select, Premium, or Prestige location, and the NYC and Austin rows showed “from” prices of $9.99, $19.99, $29.99, and $39.99 for those tiers. Their FAQ has said about 90% of locations are Standard. In Manhattan it was 13 Standard rows out of 41 on the review date, and 20 were Prestige. Plan on paying for the skyline. Check current pricing.

iPostal1’s city pages also list a registered-agent add-on at $99/year in listed states (including NY, TX, FL, IL, and WA). That is a separate appointment from the mailbox. See registered agent plus mailbox.

You still complete Form 1583. You still use PMB or #. Banks can still flag the building as a CMRA. A Fifth Avenue mail center does not turn a CMRA into a lease. See banks, Stripe, Mercury.

Flags that matter if you live abroad

iPostal1 location cards carry shipping notes, and they vary inside one city. On 07 Oct 2026 some NYC rows said “International Shipping allowed,” many said “International shipping of documents only,” and a few (122 E 42nd St and 1270 Avenue of the Americas in NYC, 3571 Far West Blvd in Austin) said “This location only serves users based in the same country.” If you are outside the US, read that line before you pay. Pickup vs scan-only

The reason to pay city rent is usually same-day pickup or a local carrier drop. iPostal1 cards list local pickup fees per row; in NYC they ran from free to $3.00 for letters and free to $5.00 per package on the review date. Confirm hours and the ID needed to pick up. USPS says Registered Mail must be collected at the Post Office, not the CMRA.

If you will never set foot in Chicago, a Chicago PMB is a vanity line plus whatever scan speed that franchisee keeps. A company hub may scan faster because that is their whole business. Local business licensing

A city PMB on your website does not register you for NYC business taxes, a Miami local business tax receipt, an Austin permit, a Chicago business license, or a Seattle business license. If you actually do business in that city, look up that city’s current rules. A mailbox checkout is not a municipal license.
