St. Brendan’s Isle mail forwarding for RVers: how the Florida address works
St. Brendan’s Isle (SBI) is a Florida mail forwarding service in Green Cove Springs, Clay County, near Jacksonville. It started in 1988 serving live-aboard boaters and now sells a plan aimed at full-time and part-time RVers. Unlike Escapees in Florida, you get one street address that takes mail and packages. This page covers what SBI charges, how it works day to day, and what Florida and Clay County actually ask a full-timer for. Everything was checked on 26 Oct 2026 from SBI’s own pages and Florida state and Clay County pages. It is not legal advice.

How SBI works
From SBI’s How It Works and RV Travelers pages (checked 26 Oct 2026):
- You sign up online or by phone (904-284-1200). SBI emails you a street address that looks like
411 Walnut Street #xxxxx, Green Cove Springs, FL 32043-3443. Because it’s a street address, SBI says it can take certified mail and UPS, FedEx and DHL deliveries. - You fill out USPS Form 1583, get it notarized and upload it through SBI’s online system. Sending it by mail or email instead costs a $25 processing fee. More on that form: Form 1583 and notary.
- SBI holds your mail, medicine and packages until you ask for a shipment. You can ask through its online account (Mail Manager Pro), by phone or by email. Requests in by noon Eastern ship the same day, and you get an email with tracking.
- Before shipping, SBI can shred junk mail (presorted standard, nonprofit and bulk rate) or send everything.
- Hours are Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm Eastern. The contact page lists holiday closures, including Veterans Day (11 Nov 2026) and Thanksgiving (26 and 27 Nov 2026), so plan shipments around them.
- When you close the account, SBI says your remaining balance is refunded in full.
What SBI charges (checked 26 Oct 2026)
| Item | Price on SBI’s pages |

| Travelers Special (the RV plan) | $13.99 a month; no sign-up or yearly fees, no annual dues |
| Cruiser Home Port (boaters) | $15.99 a month |
| Custom Mail Service | From $29.99 a month, depending on what you need |
| Opening deposit | $100, held in your account; SBI recharges $100 when the balance drops below $10 |
| Each shipment | Actual USPS postage plus a $2 handling charge, however many pieces |
| Package storage | $0.10 a day for packages held beyond 30 days |
| Form 1583 sent by mail or email | $25 (free if you upload it yourself) |
| Inactive status (part-timers off the road) | No monthly service fee |
Mail Scan Pro (optional add-on)
If you want to see your envelopes online before deciding what to ship, SBI sells Mail Scan Pro on top of a plan:
| Standard volume | High volume | |
|---|---|---|
| Monthly fee | $7.99 | $15.99 |
| Sign-up fee | $15 | $15 |
| Envelope scans included | 40 a month | 125 a month |
| Extra envelope scans | $0.25 each | $0.25 each |
| Open and scan contents | $1 per envelope | $1 per envelope |
| Storage | Mail $0.01 a day after 60 days; packages $0.10 a day after 30 days. Shredding and archived images are free. | |
A year on paper
Using only SBI’s published numbers, the plan alone is $167.88 a year (12 × $13.99). Add $95.88 plus a $15 sign-up if you want standard Mail Scan Pro all year. On top of that comes postage plus $2 for every shipment you request: someone who ships twice a month pays $48 a year in handling before postage. The $100 deposit isn’t a fee; it’s your money, used for those charges, and refunded when you leave. Part-timers who go inactive for part of the year pay less.
These are our sums from SBI’s list prices, not a quote. Postage depends on weight and speed. Compare other services in RV mail forwarding services compared.
What Florida and Clay County ask a full-timer for
SBI says it includes forms, instructions and free consultation to help with Florida residency, voter registration, vehicle registration and a Florida driver license. That’s useful, but the state and county make the rules. Here is what their own pages say.
Driver license
- FLHSMV wants two different documents showing your Florida residential address. Your current license doesn’t count, and it says it no longer accepts out-of-state addresses for a Class E license. Many of the documents (utility bills, insurance bills, medical bills and similar) must be dated within the last 60 days; a Florida voter card or a valid Florida vehicle registration or title also counts.
- SBI’s Florida page lists proof that your truck, RV or boat is registered in Florida as one of the things to bring, and says that if you don’t own an RV or boat you can use a Certification of Address (HSMV 71120) with a family member’s or friend’s Florida address. Commercial license applicants can’t use HSMV 71120 at all, per FLHSMV.
- An original Class E license is $48 on FLHSMV’s fee page (checked tonight). Clay County’s tax collector handles licenses and tags and asks out-of-state movers converting both their license and their vehicles in one visit to book an appointment.
Vehicle registration and insurance
- Clay County says registration is required within 30 days of becoming a resident. It must see the vehicle to check the VIN; if the vehicle isn’t in Florida, a dealer or police officer where it is has to fill out form HSMV 82042. All owners must be present or sign form HSMV 82040. Bring the title (or your lender’s name and address), proof of Florida insurance, photo ID, and a bill of sale if you bought it in the last six months.
- Florida requires $10,000 PIP and $10,000 property damage liability from a company licensed in Florida, kept continuously, even if the vehicle isn’t being driven. Turn in your plate before you cancel insurance. (FLHSMV insurance page.)
- The first time a vehicle gets a Florida plate, there’s a one-time $225 initial registration fee (trailers and trucks over 5,000 pounds are exempt, per Clay County). Clay County’s fee page lists yearly license tax of $58.85 for a motor home over 4,500 pounds and $38.60 for a travel trailer 35 feet or less, plus $28 for a new plate and title fees from $75.25. SBI estimates a first registration in Clay County at about $400 all in; that’s their estimate, so check it against the county’s fee page for your rig.
- Sales tax may apply if you bought the vehicle less than six months before registering it (Clay County lists 6% state plus 1.5% county on the first $5,000).

Voting: read this before you register in Clay County
- SBI’s own page says you must be a resident of Clay County to vote there, and that you can register in person at the Clay County Supervisor of Elections in Green Cove Springs or online.
- In opinion DE 18-09 (19 June 2018), Florida’s Division of Elections answered the Clay County supervisor about a private mail forwarding service in Clay County that serves “cruisers, RV’ers, expatriates, and other mobile citizens.” The opinion doesn’t name the company. It said a residence “cannot be a commercial mailbox,” that a Declaration of Domicile or a Florida license tied to the forwarder’s address doesn’t prove residence, and that customers with no past or present physical presence and no meaningful contact with the county are “most likely not legal residents of the county” for voter registration.
- The same opinion says a legal residence doesn’t have to be a traditional house, and that each case is decided by the county supervisor on the facts. So time spent in the county, local doctors or professionals, and stored belongings matter. Talk to the Clay County Supervisor of Elections ((904) 269-6350) before you count on voting there.

Declaration of Domicile and jury duty
SBI suggests filing a Declaration of Domicile at the Clay County courthouse as one way to show intent. Florida law (section 222.17) describes it as a sworn statement that you live in and keep a place of abode in that county, so read the voting opinion above before relying on it. On jury duty, the Clay County Clerk says adult citizens who live in Clay County and hold a Florida license or qualifying ID can be summoned; jurors can ask to be excused online. More in jury duty for full-time RVers.
SBI vs Escapees in Florida
| St. Brendan’s Isle | Escapees (Florida) | |
|---|---|---|
| Addresses | One Green Cove Springs street address | Two: Livingston, TX for mail and packages, Bushnell, FL for state mail only |
| Packages | Accepted at the Florida address | Returned if sent to the Florida address |
| County | Clay County | Sumter County |
| Billing | $13.99 a month from a $100 deposit, postage + $2 per shipment | Yearly plan ($125–$175 on the rate cards) plus club membership |
| Part-year use | Inactive status, no monthly fee | Temporary accounts from $40 for 2 months |
Escapees figures are from our Escapees Florida page (checked 25 Oct 2026). Both services face the same Florida voting opinion: it is about residency, not about any one company.
Is SBI the right pick?
- It fits if you want a Florida address that also takes packages, like paying month to month, or travel part of the year and want to pause between trips.
- Think twice if voting in Florida matters to you and you have no ties to Clay County, or if you want one bill a year instead of a running account.

Quick answers
How much is St. Brendan’s Isle for RVers?
$13.99 a month for the Travelers Special, plus actual postage and a $2 handling charge per shipment. You start with a $100 deposit that covers those charges and is refunded when you leave.
Can I pause SBI when I’m not traveling?
Yes. SBI says part-time travelers can go on inactive status when off the road, with no monthly service fee.
Can SBI receive packages?
Yes. SBI gives you a street address and says it accepts UPS, FedEx and DHL. Packages held over 30 days cost $0.10 a day.
Does an SBI address make me a Florida resident?
No address does that on its own. Florida’s Division of Elections has said a commercial mailbox can’t be a residence, and Florida’s license office wants two documents with a residential address.
